workshop, NUI Galway School of Education lecturers and teaching practice tutors
explore school-university partnership as a process of learning and
participation in communities of practice (Lave & Wenger, 1991). Using the
NUI Galway Partner School Initiative as an example, we will critically explore
expectations and experiences of the main actors (student teachers, university
tutors and practicing teachers in placement schools) to initiate discussions
around the benefits of partnership as well as the tensions and contradictions
inhabiting the construction site of a third and shared community.
