This chapter provides an overview of evidence-based action for promoting population mental health. Drawing on existing reviews of the evidence across high-, middle- and low-income countries, a number of priority actions are identified for promoting mental health across the life course and in diverse settings. The translation of the growing knowledge and evidence base to current practice and policy is discussed, and the development of the necessary infrastructure to support effective policy and practice, including workforce capacity development, is considered. The chapter concludes by considering the developments needed to strengthen the art, science and politics of mental health promotion into the future.
