The binuclear complex of the type Cd-2(HL)(4) was isolated from the reaction of cadmium(II) nitrate and dithiophosphonate ligands of the type R1R2PSSH (R-1 = CH3OC6H4 and R-2 = (CH3)(2)CHCH2CH2O). The crystal structure of bis-{bis-[O-3-methylbutyl (4-methoxyphenyl) dithiophosphonato] cadmium(II)}, Cd-2(HL)(4), has been determined by means of single-crystal X-ray diffraction methods. The cadmium is tetra-coordinated structure and constitutes a nearly planar geometry with the atoms on the PS2 group of the ligand. The nanoparticles of the complex were also prepared by ultrasonication, and their SEM micrographs indicated identical spherical morphologies with particles sizes about 32-39nm. The complex and ligand were additionally tested in view of their antibacterial properties. The cadmium(II) dithiophosphonato complex was found to be more active against E. coli and S. aureus than free ligand.[GRAPHICS].
