Long Term Measurements of Total Gaseous Mercury at Mace Head, Ireland A contribution to subproject MEPOP R. Ebinghaus\ HH Kock\ S.G. Jennings^, A.M. Cogging and T.G. Spain^ * GKSS Research Centre Geesthacht, Max-Planck-Str.l, 21502 Geesthacht, Germany * Department of Experimental Physics, National University of Ireland, Gahvay, Ireland Continuous measurements of total gaseous mercury (TGM) were carried out between September 1995 and July 1997 at Mace Head, Ireland, the most westerly European atmospheric research station. Average TGM concentrations measured at Mace Head over the entire period of two years are 1.8 ng nT High concentrations of up to 8 ng m^ have been recorded during pollution events. Atmospheric background conditions can be expected at Mace Head when the air masses arrive within the clean sector (180 to 300) and when aerosol black carbon (BC) mass concentrations are low (< 75 ng
