Nineteen individual participants from social work and other disciplines who took part in a 2 day Non Violent Resistance Training Programme for Practitioners were interviewed as part of a mixed methods action research project. They described their experiences of working with child to parent violence and of their participation in Non Violent Resistance training for Practitioners which was designed and facilitated by the researcher as an integral part of the study.
This workshop summarises the findings of the research which support structured, relatively short-term and systemic approaches to working with children and parents. Findings also endorse the use in research of the Practitioner Self-Efficacy Scales to measure changes in practitioner knowledge, skills and competence. The workshop will include quotes from practitioners who took part in the study. An outline of the action research and mixed methods approaches taken to explore a complex social problem of child to parent violence will also be presented.
