Landscape Cultures: Writing the Irish Natural World and the ‘Geophanic’ Projects of Tim Robinson
Optional Fields
Irish Studies, Landscape, Tim Robinson, Natural History, Ecocriticism, Nature Writing
This paper explores the development of Irish ecocritical writing by briefly outlining its historical predecessors and contexts through the prism of Tim Robinson's writings. The paper suggests an opening up of 'landscape cultures' in Ireland through key themes that consistently emerge in Irish writing - themes that Robinson has routinely engaged with throughout his forty-year relationship with the people and places of the Irish west. The paper offers some final thoughts as to future possibilities concerning the development of Environmental Humanities in an Irish context.
